Randolph Matthews
THE VOICE KEEPER
Speaker · Voice Artist · Educator
Randolph Matthews is an international vocalist, composer, educator and founder of Voice Movement Immersion.
For more than thirty years, his work has moved between stages, classrooms, communities and organisations across more than forty countries.
His speaking draws on that experience to explore a question that reaches far beyond singing: how do we stay connected to ourselves while responding to the world around us?
LIVING INSIDE YOUR VOICE
Who do you become when the room changes?
You agree in the meeting and have the real conversation with yourself on the way home. You soften the words you wanted to say. You become what the situation needs, before asking what you need.
How much of yourself are you negotiating away to remain accepted, useful or easy to work with?
Through storytelling, live vocal exploration, humour and direct questions, Randolph Matthews invites audiences to recognise when adaptation becomes disappearance and practise hearing themselves before answering the world.
Before words, there is feeling.
A moment from Randolph’s TEDxFolkestone talk, exploring the sound and feeling carried by the human voice even in something as familiar as our own name.
Through conversation and live vocal exploration, an everyday introduction becomes an invitation to listen differently.
Speaking Themes
Living Inside Your Voice
Hear yourself before you answer the world.
You can be capable, articulate and successful and still say things you don’t mean. An exploration of the gap between what we recognise in ourselves and what we allow into the conversation.
Audiences explore how to notice automatic responses, recognise their preferences and create space for a considered choice.
Stop Disappearing to Belong
What does fitting in cost you?
Being easy to work with can come at the expense of being honest. How do we make room for one another without the same people always making themselves smaller?
Audiences explore belonging, disagreement and how to contribute without editing themselves out.
Stop Borrowing Other People’s Urgency
Everyone wants an answer. Have you heard yours?
Messages, deadlines and expectations can set our pace before we’ve questioned what actually needs our attention.
Audiences explore the difference between reacting and responding and practise making room for clarity under pressure.
Talks that explore what happens when the pressure to fit in, keep up or be useful becomes louder than our own voice.
